The play recounts the legend of an assassin called Jing Ke from the Warring States period in a novel way, incorporating many modern elements (hence the name ‘our Assassin’). Jing Ke, from the state of Yan in ancient China, is a talented assassin put on a secret mission of assassinating the Emperor of Qin due to the threats posed by Qin’s imperialistic intentions. Jing Ke was given this mission by Prince Dan of State Yan, who gifted him expensive food, a villa, and, most importantly, Yan-Ji (Lady of Yan), who served both the Emperor of Qin and Prince Dan himself. It was Yan-Ji who revealed to Jing Ke the dilemma he faced, which paved the way for Jing Ke to become one of the most renowned assassins in history. This play entitled a brand new explanation for the famous legend and broke the barrier between ancient people and modern people.
